The Muniyeru Anicut was constructed near Polampalli (v) during the year 1894-98 to irrigate an ayacut of 16,427 acres benefiting 25 villages in 3 mandals i.e. Vatsavai, Penugranchiprolu and Nandigama. The anicut served more than 105 years and outlived its age, hence it needed immediate reconstruction to avoid collapse of the system.Further the present anicut is an ungated structure and river is rapidly silting up. Hence it is proposed to construct a barrage 120m down streem of existing anicut.

The Government accorded administrative approval for Rs.3500.00 Lakhs vide GO Ms No 38 I & CAD dated 07.03.2005 for Construction of Barrage. The estimate for civil works was technically sanctioned vide CE (I) No. 5/05-06, dt.04.04.2005 for Rs.18.80 Crores based on SSR 2004-05 as per the Drawings issued by CE, CDO. The work was entrusted to M/s JK Constructions, Hyderabad vide Agt.No.21SE/05-06, dt.09.01.2006 for Rs.18.36 Crores with stipulated period of completion 18 months i.e. by 08.07.2007.About 80% of civil works were completed except 7 road bridge slabs, and hoist piers, approach slab. Fabrication of gates is in progress.

Program

The work is programmed to be complete by March, 2011.The mechanical works awarded to M/s Swapna Constructions on 2.3.2009 for an amount of Rs.15.88 Crores based on SSR 2008-09, with a programme of 9 months and the agreement was concluded.Total value of civil works: Rs.24.80 / 32.66 Crores (including price escalation).%of work done as on 02/ 2010: 80.72%.% of balance work is 19.28 %.
